Society Open Meeting

Thursday 15th October 2026 @ Southwold Sailors Reading Rooms (East Street, Southwold,IP18 6EL) there will be a Society Open Meeting for members to attend if you wish, please arrive for 7.45pm to start at 8pm to hear updates from the Chairman and the Head Water Bailiff.

There is no fixed agenda for this meeting and attendees will be asked if there is anything they would like to bring up alongside the updates given. So if there is anything you would like to talk about, ask about or put forward any ideas for future plans for the Society, this is a good time to be able to accomplish this. 

It would be great to see our members getting involved and to see the new faces that have joined the society this season.

A Big Thank You

 Derek Baggott has been a member of the Society for many years and decided to make the most of the lovely weather on Saturday to spend a couple of hours fishing on Pit 1, which he did. 

Unfortunately, as he was leaving the lake Derek had a nasty fall and needed the assistance of an ambulance crew. Several of those fishing on the lakes, as well as one of our Bailiffs, came to offer their help to Derek in his hour of need. 

Consequently Derek has asked me to make a post to thank everyone for their assistance, he very much appreciated it. 

Derek is now at home recovering and nursing some damaged ribs. I am sure everyone reading this will want to wish Derek a speedy recovery.

PB Crucian Carp for Member Chris Milham

This what he had to say…….

“Around 5ish on Wednesday 12th August.

I picked a swim on pit 2, wind direction southwest, bait up was with about 10 open ended cage feeders worth with a worm, corn and small crushed boilie mix on my chosen area. Then switched to a large in-line method feeder with same mix and a much trimmed down 10mm boilie, on a short hair rig, size 14 Drennan target hook. After a few good Tench at the start of the session,  a few hours into the session the bobbin slammed the right hand rod, I thought this is going be a big Tench, I was very surprised to see the golden flank of a nice size Crucian Carp grace my net.

On weighing this lovely pristine fish just 1oz under 2.1/2 lb my new PB”

Partial closure PIT 2

Members are advised that pegs 6 to 13 on Pit 2 will be closed from 9am untill 1pm on Monday 21st September. This is to allow for the top and path side of the hedge, also adjacent the swims, to be cut.

The Committee apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Similar work (and temporary closure) will be done on Pit 4 at a future date yet to be arranged.

Apologies if this blog is received after the fact, we are currently dealing with some delays with email allowances which will be rectified in 60days.

Work party Updates

As the nights draw in, the Monday evening work parties at Kessingland have finished for the year. On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank the Members who have put in the effort to attend and compliment them on the progress they have made.

As well as the usual efforts to remove weed they have exceeded the years target for platform replacement with five being removed and totally reconstructed. In addition, the lake owners have delivered on the promise to replace all the steps and improve the access lane, work to raise the lower path around the lake will continue as materials become available. 

After a pause due to peoples holidays, the Thursday work parties will be starting again on a roughly fortnightly basis at the Reydon site. The next one will be held on Thursday 17th September with a 10am start time, it would be great to see a few new faces so please come along if you can, just bring some work gloves.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE KESSINGLAND SITE.

 

Will all members please note that, at the request of the Kessingland site owners, the lake will not be available to access or fish from the 26th August 2026 until the 30th August 2026 inclusive. 

The water will be available for members to fish again on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August.

The Committee and Lake Owners apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Specimen Crucian

 

Specimen Crucian in Sherwood Water.

Danny Sherppard put a lot of effort in for crucian on Sherwood Water Pit 1 and was well rewarded with a

1lb 12oz specimen.

Congratulations Danny what a fantastic prize and that smile says is all.
